[edit] Flight Status Notification
As of June 2009, AA now offers offer automated Flight Status Notification service. AAdvantage members can now set their Flight Status Notification preferences in their online profile under the Notification Center tab, and these notifications will be established automatically for all flights in the member's account. Previously, travellers had to manually sign up for each flight at AA.com by clicking on the appropriate button from the itinerary retrieved from My Reservations [1] or by filling the form at [2].
[edit] AA Notification Formats
American Airlines offers a choice of four flight status notification formats; however, there are no examples to help you choose what format is best. Testing has determined that there are only two formats: short (named "text" in the view existing notifications page), which is selected by choosing either of Alpha-numeric Pager, Cellphone, or PDA, and long text (named "email"). Here are samples:

Both short text ("text") and long text ("email") contain the same amount of information.
[edit] FlightStats Notifications
Another service is FlightStats, which can be useful with certain airlines. For American Airlines and American Eagle flights, the flight notification at AA.com is more timely and accurate.
FlightStats offers the following formats: "short text", "long text" and "HTML".
