[edit] Duplicate Reservations
[edit] Current Flight Firming
American Airlines employs a "flight firming" tool, called SAGE, to capture and delete duplicate bookings.
The tool generally waits about an hour from the time of the conflicting reservation before intervening.
If conflicting/ duplicate reservations occur, the valid one will be determined and processed according to the following criteria:
- An international itinerary will always be retained over a domestic one (cancelled), regardless of the time booked
- If bookings are wholly domestic, American will retain the most recent booking
- If bookings are wholly international, American will retain the most recent booking
The program uses name and AAdvantage number to determine if reservations in different records belong to the same person. Avoiding adding the AAdvantage number (and using variations on the first name during reservation) may result in SAGE not deleting a duplicate reservation.
[edit] Future Developments
ARC and American Airlines have proposed developing what the pair described as "a revolutionary" revenue recovery tool that will enable participating airlines to identify duplicate bookings in virtually real time across multiple airlines and distribution channels. Under this tool, for example, a new reservation with American that conflicts with an existing one booked on a different carrier will be detected.
According to one article[1], ARC Product Development Manager-Reporting and Settlements Shelly Younger said the tool will "definitely" be available in 2010 but that ARC still is studying the exact timing; according to another[2], the project go-ahead is is based on having enough carrier interest.
