[edit] Contacting AA

For complete contact information, see the Contact AA page on AA.com. For some additional contacts that may or may not be effective, see Elliot.org.

Note that AAdvantage Customer Service handles all AAdvantage account maintenance issues, while AA Customer Relations handles compliments, complaints, and suggestions. Both can also be contacted effectively via the AA.com website and will respond by email.

[edit] General Numbers

Although AA provides separate phone numbers for elites, only the EXP number routes to a separate desk with dedicated EXP agents. The GLD and PLT lines all route to the main pool of phone agents, and are reported to place elite members higher in the queue when waiting on hold. Status is linked to the caller's AAdvantage number, so a GLD calling the EXP number will still get routed to the regular pool.

[edit] Interactive Voice Recognition Phone System

Callers are initially routed to an interactive voice recognition (IVR) phone menu. Use of numerical menu selections, while not explicitly offered, is enabled, and a full menu map can be found in this post. In particular, you can press '0' or say 'agent' and be routed to a phone agent. The IVR system recognizes the NATO alphabet and some commonly used first names (e.g., C as in Charles), which is useful for entering one's AAdvantage number. AA phone agents also all recognize the NATO alphabet, which can be used for providing Record Locators (PNRs).

[edit] Remember Me

AAdvantage members can register up to three U.S. phone numbers using AA's Remember Me feature. When calling from any of those numbers, the phone system will automatically recognize the caller and associated AAdvantage number.

[edit] Calling from Outside the U.S.

If you need to call from outside the U.S. and get to 24-hour reservations, dial 1-817-963-1234, the main number for AMR headquarters. A human or IVR will answer and you can then transfer to Reservations or Customer Service.

Toll-free numbers previously mapped onto area codes accessible from outside the U.S. as follows: 800 --> 881, 888 --> 882, 877 --> 883. Thus, an 800 number could be reached by replacing the 800 with 881. These area codes have subsequently been recovered for future use, but this trick may still work in certain countries for certain numbers.
