TSA Prohibited Items

These TSA Regulations are copied from the TSA.gov Web site:

Sharp Objects

Box Cutters- packed in checked baggage only
Ice Axes/Ice Picks- packed in checked baggage only
Knives - except for plastic or round bladed butter knives- packed in checked baggage only
Meat Cleavers- packed in checked baggage only
Razor-Type Blades - such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors- packed in checked baggage only
Sabers- packed in checked baggage only
Scissors - metal with pointed tips and blades shorter than four inches- packed in carry-on and checked baggage
Swords- packed in checked baggage only
NOTE: Any sharp objects in checked baggage should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors.

Sporting Goods

Baseball Bats- packed in checked baggage only
Bows and Arrows- packed in checked baggage only
Cricket Bats- packed in checked baggage only
Golf Clubs- packed as checked baggage only
Hockey Sticks- packed in checked baggage only
Lacrosse Sticks- packed in checked baggage only
Pool Cues- packed in checked baggage only
Ski Poles- packed in checked baggage only
Spear Guns- packed in checked baggage only

Guns & Firearms

Ammunition - Check with your airline or travel agent to see if ammunition is permitted in checked baggage on the airline you are flying. If ammunition is permitted, it must be declared to the airline at check-in. Small arms ammunitions for personal use must be securely packed in fiber, wood or metal boxes or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition. Ask about limitations or fees, if any, that apply. Packed in checked baggage only
BB guns- packed as checked baggage only
Compressed Air Guns (to include paintball markers) - Carried in checked luggage without compressed air cylinder attached. Firearms - firearms carried as checked baggage MUST be unloaded, packed in a locked hard-sided container, and declared to the airline at check-in.
Flare Guns - May be carried as checked baggage MUST be unloaded, packed in a locked hard-sided container, and declared to the airline at check-in.
Flares- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Gun Lighter-packed as checked baggage only
Gun Powder including black powder and percussion caps- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Parts of Guns and Firearms- packed as checked baggage only
Pellet Guns- packed as checked baggage only
Realistic Replicas of Firearms- packed as checked baggage only
Starter Pistols- packed as checked baggage only

Axes and Hatchets- packed as checked baggage only
Cattle Prods- packed as checked baggage only

Drills and drill bits (including cordless portable power drills)- packed as checked baggage only
Saws (including cordless portable power saws)- packed as checked baggage only
Tools (greater than seven inches in length)- packed as checked baggage only
Tools (seven inches or less in length)- packed in carry-on and checked baggage
Screwdrivers (seven inches or less in length)- packed in carry-on and checked baggage
Wrenches and Pliers (seven inches or less in length)- packed in carry-on and checked baggage

Billy Clubs- packed in checked baggage only

Mace/Pepper Spray - One 118 ml or 4 Fl. oz. container of mace or pepper spray is permitted in checked baggage provided it is equipped with a safety mechanism to prevent accidental discharge. Packed in checked baggage only
Martial Arts Weapons- packed in checked baggage only
Night Sticks- packed in checked baggage only
Nunchakus- packed in checked baggage only
Stun Guns/Shocking Devices- packed in checked baggage only
Throwing Stars- packed in checked baggage only

Explosive & Flammable Materials, Disabling Chemicals & Other Dangerous Items

Explosive Materials Carry-on Checked Blasting Caps- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Dynamite- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Fireworks- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Flares (in any form)- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Hand Grenades- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Plastic Explosives- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Realistic Replicas of Explosives- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage

Flammable Items

Aerosol (any except for personal care or toiletries in limited quantities)- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Fuels (including cooking fuels and any flammable liquid fuel) Gasoline- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Gas Torches- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Lighter Fluid- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Common Lighters - Lighters without fuel are permitted in checked baggage. Lighters with fuel are prohibited in checked baggage, unless they adhere to the Department of Transportation (DOT) exemption, which allows up to two fueled lighters if properly enclosed in a DOT approved case. If you are uncertain as to whether your lighter is prohibited, please leave it at home. Torch Lighters - Torch lighters create a thin, needle-like flame that is hotter (reaching 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit) and more intense than those from common lighters. Torch lighters are often used for pipes and cigars, and maintain a consistent stream of air-propelled fire regardless of the angle at which it is held. Torch lighters continue to be banned. Not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Strike-anywhere Matches - One book of safety (non-strike anywhere) matches are permitted as carry-on items, but all matches are prohibited in checked baggage. Flammable Paints (See Other Items below for non-flammable paints)- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Turpentine and Paint Thinner- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Realistic Replicas of Incendiaries- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage

Disabling Chemicals & Other Dangerous Items

Chlorine for Pools and Spas- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Small compressed gas cartridges (Up to 2 in life vests and 2 spares)-packed in carry-on and checked baggage
Fire extinguishers and other compressed gas cylinders- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Liquid Bleach- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Spillable Batteries - except those in wheelchairs- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Spray Paint- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Tear Gas- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage

Other Items

Gel-type candles- packed in checked baggage only
Gel shoe inserts - Gel shoe inserts are not permitted, but shoes constructed with gel heels are allowed and must be removed and screened. Packed in checked baggage only
Non-flammable liquid, gel, or aerosol paint - 3 oz. or smaller container- packed in carry-on and checked baggage
Flammable liquid, gel, or aerosol paint- not allowed in carry-on or checked baggage
Snow globes and like decorations regardless of size or amount of liquid inside, even with documentation- packed in checked baggage only
