British Airways Executive Club (Edit)

The British Airways Executive Club program targets the business traveler. The Executive Club North America program offers a 100% mileage bonus for Gold members and 25% for Silver members on all flights, similar to other North American based airlines. Due to an antitrust agreement, members cannot earn or redeem American Airlines transatlantic flights, but all other oneworld alliance flights (including American Airlines west of the Atlantic ocean) are allowed.

You should also note that Executive Club North America is outsourced, and not operated directly by British Airways staff. It has been reported that calling up customer service may solve some of the problems that British Airways Executive Club cannot deal with (i.e., product related, instead of frequent flyer program related issues).

British Airways awards a companion ticket when you reach 1,700 points, a one-class upgrade for two (with virtually no restrictions) when you reach 2,400 points, and allows you to nominate a Silver member when you reach 3,600 points. This last benefit is generally thought to be of minor use.

The product is of higher quality than that of most other airlines. The Elemis Spa at London/Heathrow airport is one of THE best lounge features in the industry. In the past two years, Executive Club has offered several 2X and 3X mileage promotions on transatlantic business- and first-class flights (3X/4X if you are Gold member).

As mentioned above, the British Airways Executive Club staff is not British Airways staff. You should not expect them to solve issues unrelated to the frequent flyer program. Although you can call Executive Club in any country and receive Executive Club benefits across the system, services such as ticket redemption can only be completed with Executive Club North America agents. Even Executive Club agents in London/Heathrow lounges are not able to do any award booking for you. Sometimes it takes forever to claim retro-credit. And they always lose your faxes (keep the originals).
